We’re pleased to have recently secured planning permission for the conversion of a redundant agricultural building to form a visitor facility and ancillary retail unit.
This builds on a successful application we made last summer for a distillery at a rural farm in Aylesbury Vale, Buckinghamshire. The two permissions are a vital part of the client’s diversification strategy guided by diversification specialists, Dudley Peverill.
The land has traditionally been farmed for arable crops, however, recent diversification has focused on the role the farm can play in mitigating for climate change and supporting the regeneration of the environment through the planting of over 6,000 orchard trees, 32 hectares of woodland, and construction of a solar farm.
The client also strives towards supporting a circular economy, where the production, processing, consumption, and waste are managed in the local environment. The distillery was seen as a crucial part in delivering on this vision through the distilling of orchard fruit.
These permissions reflect the excellent work of Alex Moss from Dudley Peverill, Elton Norris and Vaishaan Gajendran of Peak Building Consultants, Tom Peters from Paul Basham and Associates and Chris Damant and Matt Davis of Bernwood Ecology.
Central to this project, and recognised by the council in their decisions, was the client’s vision and aspirations for the farm in supporting regenerative farming practices, environmental protection and enhancement, and securing local economic benefits.
Upon receiving planning permission, the client commented:
“Brilliant news. I was very optimistic because you had worked so hard and what a team you are!! Thank you so much for all your efforts. We can now move on with the project full steam ahead! We very much look forward to tasting the fruits of everyone’s labour when the distillery and visitors’ facility is operational.”
