Katie’s passion for the historic environment was ignited whilst studying for a Bachelor’s degree in History and Archaeology from The University of Leicester. Following this, she attained a Master of Science degree in Historic Conservation from Oxford Brookes University.
Katie began her career as a conservation officer working for local authorities in London for a decade. This gave Katie a wide range of experience negotiating and assessing applications that affect all aspects of the historic environment; providing guidance on regeneration schemes, buildings at risk, planning policy, and enforcement action. Katie, despite having no prior knowledge or interest in football, was part of a small team that negotiated the initial permission for a new stadium for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. The scheme involved wider redevelopment which included housing, a hotel, and a supermarket within a unified landscape scheme. This involved a collaborative approach with the club and various stakeholders such as Historic England, Transport for London and the Greater London Authority to ensure the best possible outcome for all parties.
Katie has transferred her skills and knowledge to the private sector, providing a candid assessment of schemes and design advice on the extensions, alterations, and conversion of listed buildings and curtilage structures, housing developments within conservation areas, and the alteration and extension of schools and other public buildings within a historic context. She has extensive experience in providing Statements of Significance and Heritage Impact Assessments to support listed buildings and planning applications.
Katie is tenacious, thorough, and always positive in her approach, and her genuine care for clients embodies our values at Edgars.
